I was working yesterday, riding on 37th street, when a car behind honked at me. I ignored it, he passed me and immediately swerved in front of me, trying to cut me off. I started to get mad, visions of his mirror being taken off by my u-lock popping into my head, when out of the corner of my eye I saw a policeman getting out of his car.
‘Did you see that?’ I asked him.
‘Yes,’ he said angrily, and pointed at the car to pull over.
I was astounded. A cop actually was there to see it and was going to do something about it!
I hung back and watched as the cop asked the driver of the livery cab why he had swerved in front of me and what he would have done if he had hit me. The driver said he didn’t even see me, which really got the cop mad. He took the driver’s license, and as I started to ride away, he told me he was going to write him a summons and was ‘gonna destroy this guy.’ I thanked him profusely and rode on.
